Prof. HO Kin-chung was the former Dean of School of Science and Technology and Programme Leader in Environmental Studies of the Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK). Currently, he is the Director of the Polar Research Institute of Hong Kong (PRIHK), Special-appointed Professor of the College of Marine Science and Ecological Environment of Shanghai Ocean University, Honorary Professor of Department of Geography of the Unversity of Hong Kong, Court Member of the Hong Kong Baptist University, Chairperson of the Algae Innovative Technologies (HK) Co. Ltd, Chairperson of the AIT High Tech (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd and Founding Chairman of the Athens Institute of Education of Hong Kong.
Graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong with major in Biology and minor in Biochemistry, he obtained a MSc degree in Environmental Resources from Salford University of United Kingdom. He worked in the Environmental a Protection Department of the Hong Kong Government for 10 years, during which he also studied in the University of Hong Kong for PhD degree by part time.
Prof. Ho has a wide spectrum of academic interests: included but not limited to Harmful Algal Blooms, Water Quality and Water Resources Management, Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Planning and Policy, Environmental Management and Sustainability, Energy Management and Climate Changes, Environmental Ethics, Ecological Theology, Environmental Education and Public Governance. He has visited the Higher Arctic for more than twenty times and the Antarctica for 4 times for scientific research and expedition. So far, he has published more than 400 research articles in refereed journals and international conference proceedings, authored and edited 45 books, developed 8 sets of distance-education study materials and production of more 20 technical reports for the Government and public corporations.
Besides academic contributions, Academician Ho serves enthusiastically in professional and communication bodies in Hong Kong and Mainland China, namely President of Hong Kong Association for the Advancement of Science and Technology, Supervisor and director of Hong Kong/Macau Pui Ching Middle School, former chairman of the Advisory Committee for the Quality of Drinking Water Supplies, member of the Advisory Council on the Environment and Deputy Chairman of its working group on EIA, member of the Sustainable Development Council, member of the Town Planning Board, member of the Transport Advisory Committee and member of the private and self-financing colleges of the RGC of University Grant Council.
As the laureate of several significant awards locally and internationally, Prof. Ho was conferred a Badge of Bauhinia Star by the Government of HKSAR in 2004 and has been appointed to be Judge of the Peace (JP) since 2014.
